WOW.

An amazing youngster is proving that age is no barrier to making a real change in the community. Aussie 10-year old Christian felt compelled to help homeless people on the streets of his native Sydney, so he set up his very own fund, Christian’s Community Fund to provide them with water, food, clothing, “but most of all love and respect”.

It started two years ago when the big-hearted kid asked his mum if they could make some care packages to give out the next time they were in the city. They made six filled with water, a t-shirt and some fruit, and handed them out.

“The first time we went to the city with the packages I was a bit shy to talk to the homeless people but I have built up my confidence the more I talk to them,” Christian wrote in an article on Kidspot.

This foray into caring for the community prompted Christian to set up his Christian’s Community Fund Facebook page in 2014, where he asks family and friends to donate, as well as raises awareness by sharing the stories of the people he meets.

“I have learnt that homeless people are people just like us and we shouldn’t ignore them,” he wrote. “Their stories can make me sad because some people have just had bad luck. A lot of them say they don’t talk to their families anymore and that makes me feel sorry for them.”

The fantastic youngster is already thinking ahead. His organisation is no flash in the pan and he hopes to keep it going “for a long time, like St Vincent de Paul”.

And his message is as simple as it’s important:

“I feel joyful and happy that I’ve just helped someone out who needs things more than us.

“If you see a homeless person on the street please give them some money, food or clothes and say hello.”
