He ruffled quite a few feathers earlier this week, when he took to his social media channels to speak out against mandatory vaccination, but this Hollywood legend has spent the past two days apologising for his actions.

While Jim Carrey frustrated parents everywhere when he tweeted that mandatory vaccinations for children should be stopped, there was one family that was personally dragged into his rant.

In one of a series of tweets condemning Californian government for introducing a law that eliminates personal-belief exemptions for childhood immunisations, Carrey sent out an image of a young boy with autism.

After being forced to expand on his original argument, explaining that he was not ‘anti-vaccination’ per se, Carrey also took the opportunity to apologise to the family of the child, Alex Echols, whose image he had taken.

It was mum Karen Echols who brought the issue to Carrey’s attention, tweeting him: “Please remove this photo of my son. You do not have permission to use his image.”

Carrey went on to tweet: “I’d like to apologise to the Echols family and others for posting a pic of their kids without permission. I didn’t mean to cause them distress.”

Ms Echols was understanding however, replying: “We appreciate the apology. If you feel so inclined, a shout-out for tuberous sclerosis awareness would be awesome!”

The picture has now been removed.
