We were all delighted for tennis ace Serena Williams when she announced her pregnancy back in April; and we were downright astonished when she discovered that she was expecting when she won the Australian Open.

The revelation prompted awe and amazement from fans all over the world, with the BBC even penning an article entitled, How Can You Win A Grand Slam While Pregnant?

Well, no one was more taken aback by the unique set of circumstances than the 35-year-old, herself!

Opening up in a new interview, with Vanity Fair, Serena recalled her shock when she found out she was expecting with fiancé Alexis Ohanian.

Admitting she took six tests to confirm the pregnancy, the tennis champ told the publication: “I did a double-take and my heart dropped. Like, literally, dropped.”

And while Serena may be going through something that millions of women all over the world have already experienced, her initial thoughts were certainly unique!

She recalled thinking: “Oh my God, this can’t be – I’ve got to play a tournament. How am I going to play the Australian Open? I had planned on winning Wimbledon this year!”

As we already know, Serena went on to take the title at the Australian Open, scoring her 23rd Grand Slam singles title.

While Serena is excited at the prospect of becoming a mother for the first time, she still can’t quite get her head around the fact that it is actually happening!

“If you would have told me last year, in October or November, that I would have a baby – not be pregnant, but have a baby – I would have thought you were the biggest liar in the world!” she added.
