Julie Clarke wants to instil positivity and gratitude in her little one.

That’s why, for the past year or so, she’s been putting thought-provoking notes into her daughter Amelie’s lunch box every day.

Filled with colour and inspirational words, Amelie goes off to school with a life lesson in her bag. The lessons are on various things, from friendship to happiness.

“Amelie was starting kindergarten and I wanted to do something special,” Julie told Parent Toolkit. “She likes getting this colourful piece of love out of her lunchbox. I don’t think the message is getting across all the time, but I hope to save them for later and can use them to teach her lessons in the future.”

Sadly, those life lessons are needed more than ever now.

On May 1st, Amelie’s dad John passed away unexpectedly from an allergic reaction to a bee sting.

In one particularly heartfelt message, Julie popped a note into Amelie’s lunchbox that would help her to understand her dad’s death.

“Daddy was one of the best people in the whole wide world,” began the note. “But I know you already knew that. I don’t think you know how many people hold a piece of love in their heart for Daddy.”

Touchingly, Amelie’s classmates have got in on the act since hearing about her poor dad.

Amelie was off school for a week following the tragic incident, but when she returned on Monday, every child in her class had written at least two notes for her.

“It okay to be sad,” wrote Amelie’s classmate, Alice. “Chear up Amelie.”

Meanwhile, another drew on Peter Pan for inspiration.

“All you need is faith, hope and pixie dust! And you’ll get through this!”

From the start, mum Julie has been putting her notes on Instagram. While they were just intended for friends and family, Julie has since garnered quite the following online.

Now, people from around the globe have started sending Amelie lunchbox notes. So far, the family have received over 70 letters, including the beautiful one below.

“It’s really touching,” Julie said. “The whole thing is pretty overwhelming especially when people that I don’t even know are doing this. People are good. People are thoughtful and they care.”

What a wonderful reminder of the comfort that people can bring to each other, and so easily too.
