Throughout pregnancy the last thing on most mums-to-be’s mind is the impact that their pregnancy has on their teeth.

However, it is important to note that pregnancy doesn’t just cause your body to change, it also causes your oral health to go through a number of phases.

1. Bleeding gums

The change in the levels of progesterone can cause your gums to bleed and swell, particularly when brushing.

2. Dry mouth

A pregnant woman can experience a dry mouth, which can be offset by drinking plenty of water and sucking on sugarless sweets.

3. Excess salvia

On the other hand, some women can experience excess saliva, usually in the early stages.

4. Tooth erosion

If you are experiencing severe morning sickness the frequent vomiting can erode the back of your teeth. Rinse after you have gotten sick and don’t brush straight away.

5. Tenderness

Increased blood flow not only causes swelling but it can also make your teeth tender and sensitive.
