Government plans to tackle obesity has led to Jamie Oliver hitting out at Prime Minister Theresa May saying the proposals “let every child in Britain down”.

The long-awaited proposals were released in August causing the celebrity chef to take to social media to condemn the plans.

And Jamie wasn’t the only one; health professionals and politicians all criticised the government’s plans.

“Everything about the childhood obesity strategy that’s just come out is a complete stinking herring,” Jamie told Radio Times magazine.

“It’s a terrible job Theresa May’s done there. Unforgivable."

"She's completely let every child in Britain down, let parents down, everyone has been let down. The stuff on the shelf with her predecessor was going to be much more robust.

"Don't get me wrong, I'm not slagging her off for the sake of it. I wanted her to act not like a politician but a parent.”

When reminded that the PM is not a parent Jamie claimed “I didn’t know that.”

Jamie has been a long-time advocate for change when it comes to childhood obesity rates in the UK.

He appeared before the Health Safety Committee back in October 2015 to discuss the issue as well as talk about a sugar tax.

“I spent two years building a narrative and backing it up with science, having it ring-fenced.

"It's the same old bull. And the same old bull hasn't worked for 20 years... "
