Hearts have gone out to actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus today, following her announcement that she is battling breast cancer.
The 56-year-old Veep star took to Twitter to share the news, opening with the message, “Just when you thought…”
“1 in 8 women get breast cancer. Today, I’m the one,” she began.
“The good news is that I have the most glorious group of supportive and caring family and friends, and fantastic insurance through my union.
“The bad news is that not all women are so lucky, so let’s fight all cancers and make universal healthcare a reality.”

Julia, who is married to Brad Hall, is mum to two sons: 25-year-old Henry, and 20-year-old Charles.
Her message was met with an outpouring of love and support across social media, with a number of high-profile celebrities reaching out.
Among them was fellow actress Christina Applegate, who battled the disease herself, nine years ago. The 45-year-old mum-of-one underwent a double mastectomy, and is a vocal advocate for breast cancer awareness.
Christina tweeted Julia, simply writing: “Mama, find me. Let’s talk if you want.”
Girls actress Lena Dunham, meanwhile, praised Julia for sharing her diagnosis and journey with the world.

“We should all thank Julia for sharing her truth with us, and using her challenge to teach others. The world doesn’t deserve her,” she wrote.
Elsewhere, former Vice President of the United States, Joe Biden, showed his support for his fellow ‘veep’.
Biden shared a throwback photo of himself and Julia walking down a corridor in the White House, wearing shades, and wrote: “We Veeps stick together. Jill and I, and all of the Bidens, are with you, Julia.”
We’re thinking of Julia at this incredible difficult time, and we are wishing her all the best along the road to recovery.
