About
CairnGorm Mountain is the most popular snowsports destination in Scotland and has been offering snowsports for over 50 years. It has 30km of ski runs, 11 lifts, a fully maintained freestyle park and an onsite snow school that caters for everyone, from beginners to experts. The snowsports season typically runs from December through until April, but this varies from year to year depending on weather.
Cairngorm Mountain is so much more than just a winter snow-sports destination (although its powdery slopes and breathtaking pistes are legendary). Its unique facilities are open year round for families, friends and adventurers to take advantage of the spectacular scenery and awe-inspiring wildlife whatever the weather. Family fun can be had in a variety of ways at CairnGorm Mountain including:
The Funicular Railway
CairnGorm Mountain is home to Scotland’s only funicular railway, which has also been named one of ‘Scotland’s Top 10 Visitor Attractions’. This unique visitor experience allows people of all abilities to reach the Top Station where the Ptarmigan Restaurant is located with panoramic views from over 3,500ft. There is also a viewing terrace, exhibition, shop and the highest post box in the British Isles.
Guided Walks & Mountain Biking
CairnGorm Mountain offers two different guided mountain biking descents which run through spectacular moorland, past sparkling burns and along forest trails. The Ridge to River Mountain Bike Descent offers visitors an exciting descent of 3,000ft from the Ptarmigan Top Station down the Hill Track, and then off-road down into Aviemore passing the scenic Loch Morlich on the way. The Hill Track Mountain Bike Descent involves 2 descents of almost 1500ft from the Ptarmigan Top Station to the Base Station, on top quality Specialized Rockhopper bikes over 2.5 hours!
They also have a highly specialised team of mountain rangers who offers a variety of guided walks for guests to enjoy. The Guided Walk at The Top operates on a twice daily basis out of the Top Station, while the Guided Hill Walk runs twice a week from the Ranger Base. Both walks are for small groups wanting to get back to nature and check out the breathtaking scenery.
