About

St Albans knows a thing or two about markets, having one of the oldest regular markets in the UK, dating back to the 9th century.

So what better City to hold a European-style Christmas Market, with up to 65 chalets?

The 25-day event from 27th November to 21st December will offer exhibitors and visitors a high quality experience at a seasonal event that combines the best elements of a traditional German style market in a fantastic location in the medieval heart of the City, around the magnificent 11th-century St Albans Cathedral and in the beautiful Vintry Gardens – a walled garden adjacent to the Cathedral.

The site, located in the “niche and specialist” shopping cluster around Holywell Hill and Georges Street and adjacent to the Medieval centre of the city and main shopping area, will be designed to create a magical atmosphere offering hospitality and welcome to the visitors in the finest tradition of the City and Cathedral.

Visitors will enjoy browsing the high quality produce on offer in up to 65 traditional wooden chalets circling the Cathedral and Vintry Gardens.  The pretty Cathedral quarter sits right at the centre of a triangle of St Albans ‘oldest’ treasures: the only working Medieval Clock Tower; the oldest Public School in the country; and, for visitors to the market who fancy a pint of real ale, the oldest pub in the UK, The Fighting Cocks, just at the foot of the Abbey Orchard, a stone’s throw from the Cathedral.
