When we send our children to school every morning, we trust that both their peers and school officials will provide them with a safe, encouraging environment in which to learn and grow as an individual.

So, to discover that your child is the victim of physical and verbal abuse while simply attempting to get an education is, for most parents, a soul-destroying revelation.

As mothers ourselves, our hearts went out to Margaret Wooding when she learned that not only had her 16-year-old son, Isaiah, recently bore the brunt of his classmate's cruel actions, but footage of his peer's behaviour had been uploaded to Facebook as a means to further humiliate the soft-spoken teen.

Speaking to NBC affiliate station WPXI, Isaiah, who suffers from cerebal palsy, outlined the chain of events which led to his public humiliation at the hands of students from Penn Hills High School recently.

While clearly devastated by the incident which Isaiah asserts wasn't the first of its kind, Margaret hopes to turn a negative into a positive by encouraging other students to take a stand against bullying.

Acknowledging the depth of the Wooding family's upset, school officials condemned the behaviour of the students involved in a statement, reading: "Anyone having played a role will be dealt with accordingly, including referrals to local law enforcement. That is NOT the Penn Hills Way."

Be sure to share if you too want to raise awareness of an issue we will continue to fight.
