There was a widespread search in April of this year, when a newborn baby was discovered in the disabled toilet of an amusement arcade.

After staff found the little baby, who was named April, police issued an appeal to find the youngster’s mum, who they believed was at risk.

Baby April, whose survival has been described as “miraculous” was placed in Ormskirk Hospital where she was cared for while the search continued. Thankfully, her mother, Nicola Glover, was found at an address in Merseyside, and was given medical treatment.

Seven months on and April’s mother has been spared jail after being handed down an eight-month prison sentence suspended for 18 months.

Liverpool Crown Court heard that the defendant knew she was pregnant but had kept it a secret, and judge Alan Conrad QC described it as a “highly unusual case”.

Previously denying a charge of attempted murder, Ms Glover admitted to child cruelty and the Judge accepted that she had been suffering with mental health issues at the time.

“I must accept that you did not intend to kill your baby but I equally must bear in mind that by abandoning your baby you subjected her to the gravest risk. It was only due to the good fortune and quick thinking of those who found and revived her that she survived her ordeal,” Judge Conrad said at sentencing.

“What you did went entirely against her.”
