There have been some alarming stories regarding the treatment of children in schools in recent times, but this one has to be the most shocking we have ever reported on.

A school in Texas is under investigation this week, after a mum discovered her nine-year-old son locked up inside a room as punishment when she went to collect him.

Mrs Snowden came to collect her son from Carl Schurz Elementary at the usual time last week, but was left puzzled when she discovered that he wasn’t in his classroom. The school’s vice principal then offered to retrieve Mrs Snowden’s son for her, but it took five requests until the concerned mother was allowed to accompany the staff member.

Mrs Snowden was then reportedly led to a frigid, empty room which housed her son, who was huddled in the corner in tears. She proceeded to take out her phone and take photos of the scene, despite the vice principal attempting to block her.

When the Snowdens asked their son about the room, he informed them that the staff refer to it as the ‘focus room’, and that he had been forced to go in there almost every day.

In another shocking revelation, Mrs Snowden claims that her son was denied his denim jacket when he complained of being cold, and that the teacher in question went on to sarcastically remark upon how nice it was to be warm.

Mrs Snowden shared her findings on a website called Helping Alex, and needless to say, the revelations have sent shockwaves through the local community.

According to reports this week, the county’s district superintendent has since received a number of concerned calls and emails, and police have now been posted at the school’s campus.

Responding to the scandal, a representative for the school said that the room is a “safe” room that is used “only when a student is a danger to himself or others”.

We will keep you updated on what happens in this shocking and frightening story.
