A mum has issued an important warning about the dangers of open windows, after receiving a particularly upsetting message from a friend.

Sarah, who blogs at The Unmumsy Mum, took to her Facebook page to warn parents to be vigilant at home amid the fine weather.

A mother of two herself, Sarah was upset after hearing of how her friend’s son was left seriously injured after falling through an open window.

The four-year-old child was visiting a friend’s house when the incident occurred, on Friday. He is said to have dropped 12 feet to the concrete below, leaving all involved ‘absolutely distraught’.

“He had been playing with his friends and siblings in the garden just SECONDS before and, unbeknown to his mum, had taken himself upstairs to wave at his sister from the window when he slipped,” Sarah wrote.

She went on to reveal that the child is now medically sedated in hospital, after suffering multiple internal and external injuries.

The child’s mother is obviously traumatised, and called on Sarah to share her story, in a bid to warn other parents.

“She has asked me to post something on my page to raise awareness about the dangers of open windows, and I would very much like to support her in doing so,” wrote Sarah.

Sadly, Sarah is all-too au-fait with the phenomenon of mum-shaming, and she felt compelled to ask her followers to ‘steer clear of judgement’.

“She has chosen to share this warning because, she says, ‘I want all parents to ensure they have taken every precaution to keep their babies safe’,” she added.

While Sarah’s post has gone viral across Facebook, her friend has received nothing but support from The Unmumsy Mum’s following.

“No judgement at all. Kids are so quick, and you can’t watch 24/7. My thoughts are with her and her family,” wrote one follower.

Another chimed in: “Really hope he makes a fully recovery. As someone has already mentioned, these things only take a split second to happen, and we can’t watch our little ones every single second.”

We can’t imagine how frightening this incident must have been for the mother and, indeed, all involved. Fair play to her for sharing her story – we are sure it will remind other parents to be vigilant of open windows this summer.
