Angela Ames filed a sex and pregnancy discrimination lawsuit against her former workplace in 2012, but the case has been thrown out on the grounds that "men can lactate under certain circumstances'.

After two months maternity leave, Angela returned to her job at Nationwide Mutual Insurance in Des Moines, Iowa, but was stunned to discover she was not entitled to use one of the company's lactation rooms as she hadn't filled out the necessary paperwork.

Despite the fact a company nurse requested that Angela be given 'expedited access' to a lactation room and use a 'wellness room' while the paperwork was completed, Angela resigned after being told by a supervisor that she should go home to her children,

Her case was initially dismissed as the court ruled that the company did not intend to force Angela to resign when attempting to implement their policies.

Taking her case to the Supreme Court, Angela was told that her case was not one of sex discrimination because men are capable of lactating in some instances and the comment made by her supervisor was deemed 'gender-neutral'.

Angela can go no further with her case following the Supreme Court's dismissal.
