Mums hug button idea will help ease those back-to-school nerves

Going back to school can be a daunting experience for many children. Luckily, one mum has come up with a clever idea that is bound to make your little ones feel at ease throughout the school day, from the morning drive to school until the bell rings at home time.

Louise Mallett, who is from Ipswich, shared her sweet solution for those first day butterflies.

Louise shared the touching post on Facebook, where she wrote about her son’s first day at school.

She revealed that he was feeling nervous and emotional as he started this new chapter at primary school, “My littlest baby had his first day at school today, having been in for a couple of mornings' settling-in sessions.”

Her son admitted that he missed his mum a lot when he first started at his new school. Louise didn’t want him feeling upset, so she decided to draw a heart on the palm of their hands.

“If we pressed it the heart sent a hug to the other person,” said the mum. Louise drew a spare heart on her son’s arm, just in case the other one faded away.

She explained that they charge the hearts by holding hands a sweet moment the pair shared before her son headed into school: “We 'charged' them by holding hands on the way to school.”

When she collected her little boy from school, he asked her if she had gotten all the hugs he sent her. “I pressed it for a long time, Mummy, but I didn't cry," her son said proudly.

Louise admitted that she is struggling with this momentous change, explaining that she has felt emotional about her little one going to school: “Here's to many more happy days at school, while I sit at home with the dog and cry that all my babies are at school now.”

This is a wonderful way to combat those back-to-school fears, and it seems hundreds of mums agree.

One commented on the post, which Louise originally posted on The Motherload Facebook page, saying, “love this, and thank you for sharing. My son is 10, and I'm gonna try this with him, he's 5th grade.”

Another praised Louise’s solution, writing: “I did this today, and absolutely loved it!! My little boy thought it was great - thanks so much for sharing! Think there will quite a few children with hearts on their hands.”

There's no doubt many mums will be doing the same as their kids return to school.
