Outrage after photographer offers to airbrush childrens school photos

Getting your school photo taken is never any fun. You always feel awkward, blink when the camera flashes and then later realise your hair was sticking up the entire time. They never look flawless but that’s part of the charm.

No kid should ever worry about looking ‘flawless’ in a school photo.

They’re just a sentiment for parents to have as a new school year begins.

One school has caused major outrage after a photographer offered to retouch school photos. Two options were available: Basic retouching which removes blemishes and premium retouching which will remove spots and whiten your teeth.

Sam Walker, who has two daughters in the school, expressed her outrage on Twitter. She wrote, “The girls have their school photo today and there is the option to airbrush the picture! There are two levels offered! What the…?! I have complained. What eight-year-old needs to be paranoid about an uneven skin tone?” she asked.

The last thing children need to worry about is how they look.

There is far too much pressure placed on people to look ‘perfect’ especially with the rise of social media, and children shouldn’t be objected to this.

They deserve to enjoy these care-free years and not have to fret about whether their teeth are white enough or stress about the tiny pimple on their chin.

Eight-year-olds should be encouraged to embrace who they are. We should be teaching them about body confidence and self acceptance, not advising them to retouch a school photo.
