In an ideal world, we would attend every school play and performance, concert and end-of-year celebration; but, sadly, things like work and jobs keep us from doing so – much to our own disappointment, and that of our little ones.

Well, this could soon be about to change – in the United States, at least.

According to reports, a new bill introduced in California this week is proposing that parents be paid for days off taken to attend their children’s school activities.

The current provisions in California give employees five days annual leave for school-related activities, which they don’t receive pay for.

Under this new bill, however, businesses with more than 25 employees will now be required to give three paid days off a year to accommodate parents who want to attend these important milestones in their children’s education.

Introducing the proposed legislation, Mike Gatto said the new provisions will benefit families without causing parents to make major sacrifices at a financial cost.

“Studies show that this greatly improves your child’s educational chances in life. And it’s really critical that we give parents this opportunity to do it without forcing them to make the tough decision between paying the bills and being involved,” said Gatto.

We will keep you updated on the progress of the proposed legislation.
