From creating ‘inappropriate’ campaigns to marking controversial assignments, schools have been hitting the headlines more and more for the wrong reasons of late, and yet another shocking report has emerged this morning.

A school in the UK has come under fire today, after a teacher confiscated a pupil’s asthma inhaler as ‘security’ for borrowing a uniform tie when she forgot her own.

16-year-old Sian Gould’s parents were left outraged when she returned home to inform them that her teacher asked her to hand over the inhaler in exchange for the tie.

In an interview with local newspaper The Crewe Chronicle, Sian’s dad Garry said that he was “disgusted” by the move, and even had to go as far as to buy a replacement inhaler when the teacher involved was not around to return the original one.

“I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. The fact that an adult, even worse a teacher, thought it was acceptable to take away a child’s medication is unreal,” said Mr Gould.

He added: “When I found out, I went mad. Sian hadn’t had her inhaler for a few days because she still couldn’t find her own tie. She didn’t want to worry us. To think she was without medication that could potentially save her life is so scary.”

The school, which has since had a change of management, has acknowledged the situation. However, new head teacher Richard Hedge has reportedly said it would be ‘inappropriate’ to comment on the incident because he was not in charge at the time.
