Whether you're firmly against the practice or wholeheartedly support the endeavour, it's safe to say that by the time your child reaches university you will have splashed out on at least one present for your son or daughter's teacher.
One couple, who are either utterly jaded or wholly creative, have come to the internet's attention in recent days after choosing to gift their son's teacher with a particularly personal token.
With tongue firmly placed in cheek, the parents of one little boy offered his teacher the opportunity to relax and unwind with the help of a small tipple - something which they imply may be rquired after a long day in the classroom with their little boy.
Proffering a bottle of white wine which bore a photo of their adorable son, the child's parents suggested: "Our child might be the reason you drink."
"So enjoy this bottle on us," they invited in a move which has seen a mixed reaction by users of Reddit website.
Lauding the gesture, a former teacher drew on her own experience, writing: "I used to be a teacher. This would be way better than all of the other junk we get. (other than thank you notes, those are pure gold and we never forget them)."
Not as impressed by the couple's offbeat choice of gift, one Reddit user remarked: "As the son of a teacher who is also a recovering alcoholic, I don't know whether to laugh a little or cry a little."
