Hearts are going out to the family of a young boy who died at a rail depot in Northamptonshire this week.

The death was confirmed by the British Transport Police, who revealed that the as yet unnamed 11-year-old boy died at the scene, at the Daventry international rail fright deport, on Tuesday.

According to a statement, the child suffered severe electrical burns and succumbed to his injuries at the scene, on Tuesday evening.

Authorities were first alerted to the tragedy that evening, with reports of an injured child on the site. The circumstances surrounding the child’s death are as yet unknown.

The British Transport Police confirmed that they are treating the death as unexplained, and have launched an investigation to find out what happened.

Given how little information the authorities have regarding the incident, they are appealing to anyone who may be able to help, to come forward.

In a statement, Detective Inspector Gareth Davies said: “Our thoughts are with the family of this young boy during what must be an incredibly difficult time.

He said that a unit of specially trained officers has been deployed to support the child’s family through this most devastating time.

“Our focus is now fixed on understanding exactly what happened and how this young boy came to receive these awful injuries,” added Detective Inspector Davies.

“Therefore, I would be looking to hear from anyone who may have seen a young boy enter this depot at around 5pm.

“If you were in the area or have any information, no matter how small, please do get in touch as soon as possible.”

Anyone with information is asked to get in touch with the British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40. Alternatively, you can send a text to 61016.

We are thinking of the family involved at this extremely difficult time, and we hope they will receive the answers they seek.
