Parents of children attending a London primary school have launched a petition against plans to install unisex toilets for pupils over the age of eight.

Management at Buxton School in Leytonstone outlined the plans as part of a £12 million building refurbishment.

Parents, however, are deeply unhappy with the decision and are calling on school management and local politicians to reinstate segregated toilet facilities for boys and girls.

A petition entitled ‘We say NO! To Unisex Toilets at Buxton School’ has garnered over 600 signatures already.

In the petition, author Ehasan Karim outlined the main reasons why parents are so concerned over the proposed building plans.

“We believe the decision to introduce unisex toilets will disrupt the hygiene, privacy, safety, security and the wellbeing of the children attending Buxton School,” the petition reads.

Touching on another serious issue, it adds: “We fear that it may potentially cause an increase in sexually related incidents, including assault and harassment.”

Indeed, this particular issue was jumped upon by a number of other parents, who are concerned that the installation of unisex toilets will lead to kids becoming sexually active at an earlier age.

“I do not want this. I don’t understand the logic behind unisex toilets – unless the Government wants people to become pregnant and catch diseases,” wrote one concerned parent.

Elsewhere, another chimed in: “Let’s not give free reason for unnecessary naughtiness amongst our children.”
