Educational charity IntoUniversity has launched a new after-school scheme to encourage kids as young as seven to aim for a place in university.

The centre in Leeds was opened in partnership with Leeds University and is working with children from primary school upwards to encourage aspirations of going on to third level education.

The centre is currently working with four primary schools and three secondary schools in the city and has been very popular with local families.

Sessions for around 30 children at a time are run after school every day and the staff spend the rest of the day visiting schools to get them involved.

Ellie Rowley who runs the centre said to the Yorkshire Evening Post that “the community has been really welcoming.”

“All the organisations which work with young people in this area have been really supportive of what we are doing.”

The new centre, which is located close to the Asda headquarters, has been supported by the Asda Foundation with them granting £345,000 to them.
