As every parent knows, encouraging your child to complete their homework is part and parcel of family life, but on some occasions there exist exceptions.

When one mother from the States considered a particular homework question somewhat inappropriate, she allowed her daughter to skip it, but insisted she explained her reasoning for failing to complete the assignment.

Commenting beneath a question which outlines the dating habits of a group of high school students, the 4th grade pupil wrote: "I can’t answer this problem because my mom says according to girl code you shouldn’t date a friends ex-boyfriend."

Remarking on the question which read: "In high school, Frank, Mike, George and Ron each went out on a total of 4 dates with 4 different girls. The second time Frank dated Rose and George dated Kay. The third time Mike dated Mary and Ron dated Louise. The fourth time, George dated Louise and Ron dated Kay. For each of the 4 times, tell which girl dated which boy," Jenn Douglas suggested it was not entirely appropriate subject matter.

Speaking to the Huffington Post, the little girl's mother said: "I consider myself to be a completely open-minded type person and as a single mom, try to teach my children about equality and about different types of people they will encounter, but my first reaction was it was not an appropriate question for a fourth grader or really any grade."

Praising Jenn and her daughter's lighthearted approach to a genuine concern, the child's teacher agreed with their argument and simply said: "Good point,"

The assignment has been going viral on Facebook since Jenn and her daughter made their position clear.
