Yes, if we had our wish, pyjamas would be the staple daily uniform of every person the whole, wide world – but, sadly, this is not the case. And as much as we love our comfy PJs, spotting people sporting them out in public is always going to draw funny looks.

Well, it has drawn more than just a funny look at one school in the UK, with the principal appealing to parents to stop wearing pyjamas and slippers on the school-run.

Kate Chisholm, Headmistress of Darlington’s Skerne Park Academy, has made the headlines this week after sending out a letter urging parents to ‘dress appropriately’ when dropping off and collecting their children.

In the letter, which has been shared online, Ms Chisholm addressed the fact that more and more parents have been showing up at the school gate wearing their night-wear.

“I have noticed there has been an increasing tendency for parents to escort children to and from school while still wearing their pyjamas and, on occasion, even slippers,” the note read.

While not stated in the letter, other sources revealed that Ms Chisholm even noticed some parents wearing their pyjamas to school assemblies and even meetings.

In a bid to put an end to the ‘trend’, Ms Chisholm wrote: “Could I please ask that when you are escorting your children, you take the time to dress appropriately in day-wear that is suitable for the weather conditions?”

Speaking to local news after the letter did the rounds on social media, Ms Chisholm revealed that her campaign has received plenty of support from the community and beyond.

What are your thoughts? Is it ever acceptable to wear pyjamas out in public?
