Trying to balance family life with work is always a challenge, and it’s encouraging to see schools adapting their policies and approaches to cater to busy parents – which is why a new proposal at a private school in Perth, Australia, is making headlines this week.

According to Perth Now, Presbyterian Ladies’ College is proposing the introduction of a 12-hour school day, to accommodate busy working parents.

Management at the school are proposing a 7am-7pm school day; currently, only sports and other extra-curricular activities are catered for in the early mornings and late evenings of the school day.

Speaking to the publication, Principal Kate Hadwen said that the proposal was particularly aimed at working mothers.

“I fundamentally believe that we’re an organisation eventually supporting women in the workforce, [and] we should be enabling our parents to actually work,” she said.

Do you support this idea of extending the structured school day, to make life easier for working parents? Would you like to see a similar structure introduced here?
