With a number of parents finding themselves in court in recent weeks on account of their child's school attendance records, the reports that Brighton and Hove City council are proposing to change school term times may be a welcome mews to many.
In an attempt to facilitate family holidays which will neither break the bank nor encroach on a child's education, Brighton and Hove City council have proposed reducing summer holidays by one week - a time period which will instead be offered during the autumn term.
The proposal comes as statistics see an increase in the number of families in Brighton who have received fines on account of their child's school attendance levels - a statistic which is thought to reflect the increasing emphasis schools have placed on imposing the governments' policy on attendance levels.
The plan, which is due to be discussed among council members this week, will not go into action until September 2017 if agreed upon.
Thus far, it appears many parents would welcome the proposed change – Would you?
