Pupils as young as 11 years old were left distressed and in tears after being exposed to violence and full-frontal nudity in an adult film.

Parents of students at Penweddig High School in Aberystwyth, Wales, were outraged after discovering that Steven Spielberg’s 15-rated historical slavery movie Amistad had been screened during a religion class.

One angry parent told the Mirror: “My son came home one day saying that the class had been shown Amistad. He described how the filming clearly showed whipping, full frontal nudity and violence. Apparently a number of girls in the class were distressed and crying.”

After further investigation, the parent learned that this wasn’t an isolated incident.

“Speaking to my son and other parents, it became apparent that pupils were often shown films that I would regard as unsuitable,” she added.

While no formal statement or explanation has been provided by the school, a local council spokesman said that the issue of showing age-appropriate films had been discussed with the school.

This story comes after a school hit the headlines for launching a campaign to ban leggings and tight jeans from being worn in the classroom, because they are serving as a “distraction” to other students and even teachers.
