There is nothing quite as relaxing as enjoying a family lunch on a Sunday afternoon, but it never turns out quite as we expect it to.

In fact, we’re safe to say it never turns out quite as we expect it to!

1. Eating hot food

Expectation:

Sitting back with a plate of hot, tasty food in front of you waiting to be enjoyed.

Reality:

By the time you’ve fed the kids, your plate is stone cold. Oh well, at least the kids didn’t eat it.

2. Relaxing back in the chair

Expectation:

You’ve just filled your belly up with tasty, delicious food and now all you want to do is sit back, coffee in hand, and let it digest.

Reality:

The kids will either start climbing every single chair in the restaurant pretending it’s lava or insist they are bored. Over and over again.

3. Enjoying an intellectual adult conversation

Expectation:

You’ll enjoy chatting about politics or what’s in the news with your other half while the kids play quietly in the corner.

Reality:

You’ll spend the day trying to entertain the kids so as not to disturb other diners... Oh well, at least you got to eat all your food before they took it away.

4. Sitting out in the sun, while the kids play quietly in the corner

Expectation:

You’ll order your meal under the shade of an umbrella while the kids play nicely with each other.

Reality:

It’s summer, it’s lunchtime, so it’s guaranteed to rain!

5. The orders will be placed and food will be eaten

Expectation:

Everyone will eat their meal in full and you won’t have to cook at all that day.

Reality:

The kids won’t like what’s on the menu and you’ll end up cooking dinner when you get home anyway.
