Courageous, quick-thinking children have certainly hit the headlines a lot over the past few weeks, and this latest story is one of true heroism.

Like 4 year-old Luke from Reading and 3-year-old Aiden from Utah, 11-year-old Jake from California has been hailed a hero for saving his father's life.

Having gone on a hike up the mountains, cub scout Jake's dad got into difficulty and tumbled almost fifty feet off the side of the mountain..

Immediately contacting emergency services, Jake was able to direct emergency services to his father's location by removing his shoe and waving it in the air to attract the helicopter which was looking for Jake and his dad.

His father suffered from multiple fractures and several lacerations following the accident, but thankfully survived the traumatic incident.

Jake. who hopes to become a firefighter, is now in the running for a National Heroism Award from the Boy Scouts of America for his bravery.
