A warning has been issued by the Coastguard after a man was spotted attempting to cross a frozen lake while carrying a young child.

Taking to their Facebook page, HM Coastguard Happisburgh & Mundesley explained that despite the cold conditions, the ice was deceptively thick-looking.

"This is not the case and the ice is still very thin and will not support weight," they explained.

"We have seen people attempting to walk on the ice already, especially children. Please do not do this as there is a serious risk of falling through.

"If you see someone that gets into difficulties immediately phone 999 and ask for the Coastguard..... DO NOT attempt to rescue them yourself by going onto the ice."

People were quick to comment under the picture, calling the person in question "irresponsible".

"There is no legislation for total stupidity," wrote another.
