Amber Austwick was born prematurely along with her twin sister Hope, resulting in both girls suffering from complications after birth.

However, while Hope recovered quite quickly, Amber required a life-saving tracheotomy to help her breathe, which in turn restricted air going to her vocal chords.

As a result of the surgery, Amber was able to breathe but unable to speak.

That was until she met Shocks.

Shocks, a rescue donkey who was abused, resides in an animal sanctuary in Bermingham.

And when Amber’s mum Tracy brought her to the sanctuary, she did not realise it would lead to her daughter’s first words.

Amber and Shocks instantly became friends, forming a special bond.

Following quality time with her furry friend, the six-year-old spoke her emotional first words.

“I love you” were Amber’s chosen words, spoken to her new friend Shocks.

Tracy told Inside Edition: “It was such an emotional moment.”

“I couldn't believe my daughter had finally found her voice, he’s really lovely and so patient with Amber,” added the mum.

While Shocks continues to reside at the sanctuary, himself and Amber are now friends for life, as the young girl goes back to visit all the time.

Isn’t this story beautiful? Do you remember the emotional moment your child spoke their first words?
