After being in the job a long time, we’re sure teachers start to hear the same excuses as to why one of their students hasn’t done their homework. From the dog ate my homework to the internet not working, we bet teachers have heard them all before.

However, we’re pretty sure that little Maddie is the first person to ever use her particular excuse!

An image shared on Imgur, captioned simply: ‘Best excuse ever’, shows a note written by Maddie’s parents giving the reasons as to why she didn’t do her homework the previous night.

The handwritten note starts off by asking for an extra day to complete her work, saying: "Please give Maddie one more day to complete her homework. We had some big family news and did not get to this."

It’s the bit after that we’re sure even the strictest teacher couldn’t say anything against: "Her grandpa won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry!"

Not surprisingly, the note has been viewed by almost 1.5million people, with one person writing: “I am keeping that one under the best excuses for my future children for when I am a slacker parent."

Thomas Lindahl won the prestigious award alongside Paul Modrich and Aziz Sancar for their work on genetic repair.

We're sure the teacher will let this one slide!
