A stye is formed when the bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus infects one of the oil glands at the base of the eyelash. The infection causes a tender, red, pus filled bump or boil. You may notice some yellow discharge seeping from the infection and your toddler’s eyelid may become a little crusty. A stye isn’t dangerous but it can be irritating, and does require treatment to prevent it from becoming a more serious infection.
