With all the talk of the controversial SATS recently, it’s good to see at least a few positives come out of it: in this case the encouragement to get kids outside.

Recently, more than 30,000 kids went ‘on strike’ in protest against the exams, with campaigners insisting that that the school system is placing more importance on test results than a person’s “joy of learning”.

Believing that the students are too young for such pressure, the Let Our Kids be Kids campaigners said more trust was needed to be given to teachers, who were struggling to teach kids information that they are “simply not mentally ready” for.

However, one teacher, who understands just how hard the exams are, has taken the initiative to ensure students don’t spend all their time studying, and Acc Leicestershire Phil Kay took to Twitter to share exactly how she went about this.

Sharing a picture of a homework assignment issued by a teacher called Mrs Thom on the social media account, the officer wrote: “I don't know who Mrs Thom is or where she teaches. I do know J3 are very lucky to have her as a teacher #MrsThom

The assignment listed exactly what the children had to do over the weekend, and none of it involved studying!

From going for a nice swim to laughing until their tummy hurt, kids were told that if they DID have to revise they were only allowed to do so for an hour in total.

We totally wish Mrs Thom had been our teacher growing up!
