Marc Morris, a 19-year-old from Pumpherston, has raised more than £500 for Macmillan Cancer Support. The young adult had hoped to raise just £100 and get a friend to shave his head on 1st February, but after he exceeded his fundraising target he decided to do it early.
Marc hails the Macmillan Cancer Support organisation saying they “have been a super support” and so he wanted to do something to help them with their funding. Considering, as he says, “losing your hair is one of the most recognisable side-effects from chemotherapy” shaving off his own hair seemed an appropriate way to raise money.
The 19-year-old, who is studying business management at Napier University, admits that his hair is one of his prized possessions so it wasn’t an easy thing for him to do. ”As anyone who knows me will be aware, my hair is valuable to me so I wanted to do something drastic to help this charity,” he said.
Admitting that he now feels the cold, the inspiring student, who didn’t expect to raise that much money, said: “Charities such as Macmillan Cancer Support provide excellent care for those affected by this horrible illness and without our donations and support their level of care could not possibly be as high as it is.”
With more and more incidents of cancer, tragically in young children, it’s always lovely to see someone going out of their way to raise funds and awareness.
