Red lipstick is great at creating a dramatic look, and is ideal for taking your make-up from day to night. However, there is more to it than simply sweeping it over your lips, and there are a few rules you need to adhere to!

Before you apply your lippie, make sure you take note of the following five rules:

1. Do it slowly

You’ll end you with a little red on your lips if you work too fast so take it nice and slow. It’s will also stop you going crooked or off line – it’s a nightmare to clean it up!

2. Respect your natural line

Don’t try to make your lips look unnaturally big by going overboard on the outline, keep it natural. Otherwise you’ll end up looking like a clown...

3. Line them first

Stop your lips from bleeding by lining them first either with a similar coloured liner or a nude one. it will also help to define them and make them stand out.

4. Keep things simple

You don’t need to be caked in foundation and eyeshadow to wear red or dark lipstick. If you keep the base natural you’ll be able to create a dramatic look.

5. Check, check, check

Unlike your foundation, you have to keep an eye on your lipstick in case it bleeds or rubs off on your teeth. Pop a pocket mirror into your bag and you can be on your merry way!
