The last five days of school before they break up for the Christmas holidays is definitely the best week for so many kids (apart from the last week before the summer, obviously) And here's why:

The school play takes place

As you proudly watch your little one up on stage, you won’t be able to stop yourself from standing and waving much to the annoyance of everyone around you, but hey, as long as your little one sees you, you don’t care.

The tidy up

Don’t be surprised when your little one starts bringing home tons of artwork, copies, books and tops and jumpers that have been missing since September, because this week is when the tidy up happens in preparation for a new start in January.

The Christmas party

Usually taking place on the last day, the Christmas party is definitely the highlight of the year for the students. Heading to school with a bag full of sweets and chocolates, the party involves kids eating truck loads of sweets and finishing up the tidy up.

Gifting to teachers

While most schools have a no-gift policy whereby parents don’t have to buy presents for the teacher, this doesn’t mean you can't pick up something small to say thank you for all their hard work. There is usually a mad rush by kids on the last day to give their present to their teacher.

Asking for donations

Every year you are guaranteed to find a note in your little one’s bag asking for food or money to give to the school’s chosen charity or even for the school itself.Whether it’s via a raffle, cake sale, Christmas market or donations it’s the perfect way to teach kids all about the true meaning of Christmas – to give to those less fortunate than them.

The wind down

This week is when the wind-down begins: exams are finished and teachers hand out less work as they try to finish off the term’s curriculum. And the best part of all of this is... no homework. This frees up more time for you and your youngster to go about Christmas shopping and soaking up the festive atmosphere without the need to rush home.

The Santa visit

If your little one is very lucky, they might even get a visit from Santa in the last week before they break up for the holidays. A great way to end the term on a high.
