They may have maintained resolute silence during their son’s cancer battle, but now Luisana Lopilato has opened up about the most difficult time in her family’s life.
Luisana and her husband, Michael Bublé, shocked everyone last year when they announced that their eldest child, Noah, was battling liver cancer.
It was a complicated road to diagnosis, however, as model Luisana revealed in a new TV interview with Argentinian presenter Susana Giminez.
She revealed that, initially, doctors thought that Noah had the mumps, then an infection. After a course of antibiotics failed to help the three-year-old, it was decided that some emergency tests were needed.
Luisana decided to drop everything and fly to the States – without even speaking to her singer husband – in a bid to diagnose Noah.
“Mike wasn’t with me at the time. He was just about to do a very important interview in England and I couldn't get hold of him on the phone,” she explained.
“So, the day I found out Noah had something in his stomach and the doctors didn’t really know what it was and whether it might be a tumour, I got a flight to the States.”
Noah was given an ultrasound, where his cancer was confirmed. Today, Luisana is grateful that she trusted her instincts and took such decisive action in that moment.
“If I hadn’t done the ultrasounds to rule out mononucleosis, they wouldn’t have discovered what they had in his stomach and it would have been worse after,” she said.
Back in April, Noah’s parents issued a statement confirming that Noah was recovering after his treatment, and Luisana had yet more positive updates to share in her interview.
“Thank God, the worst is over now, but this is a long and ongoing process,” she explained.
Michael and Luisana met on the set of the singer’s music video for Haven’t Met You Yet. They wed in 2011, after two years of dating, and went on to welcome Noah in 2013. His little brother, Elias, was born in January of last year.
We’re wishing Noah all the best with the rest of his recovery.
