Students of Sharnbrook Upper School in Bedfordshire have been asked to wear lanyards with their target A-level grades written on them.

The school sent an email to all sixth form students telling them about the new system which asks them to wear the lanyards with their expected grades.

These grades will be based around GCSE results and will also act as a form of I.D. with students’ names and photograph present as well.

Teachers had said the lanyards were for an upcoming Ofsted inspection and were also to increase “safety measures” by making sure no unauthorised person are on sight.

But student’s aren’t so keen saying that the lanyards are “alienating” and are adding unnecessary pressure to what is already a very stressful year.

One student told The Daily Mail: “When we first got them, people were not happy. Many of us were crossing out the grades.”

“We were told it was needed so that all students know their targets in case an Ofsted inspector asks us, which the school feels is something we should all know.”

Defending the move, Operational Director Lisa Rattu said students could keep their result predictions private if it was upsetting to have it on display.
