Police dogs are nothing new, with many police stations employing them to sniff out the bad guys.
But this little girl reckons a police cat could be just as good, if not better.
Five-year-old Eliza Adamson-Hopper, who has a cat named Mittens and a dog called Susie, wrote to the Durham Constabulary asking them to consider adding a crafty feline to their team.
In her fabulously articulate letter, Eliza from Newcastle upon Tyne outlined the pros of having a cat on board.
"A police cat would be good as they have good ears and can listen out for danger," she explained.
"Cats are good at finding their way home and could show policemen the way."
All good points. We're a little iffy about her last one, though.
"Cats are also good at climbing trees and hunting and could rescue people that were stuck."
"My dog is friends with my cat and I think a police cat would be friends with your police dogs," she continued.
The chief constable responded to Eliza's letter, telling her he'd bring her request to the attention of the inspector - and it seems the little girl has managed to talk them round.
Inspector Richie Allen told Buzzfeed that they're looking into hiring their first police cat:
"Their duties and responsibilities have not yet been agreed but if nothing else they will become the force mascot," he said.
"Of course, if it smells a rat, we'll expect it to catch it!"
What an adorable little girl! We suspect she brought some much-needed light relief to that particular station...
