It’s a daily battle for many mums to try and get their children up and out the door for school organised, fed and on time.

With the new school year just around the corner, we have devised a few tips that will hopefully make it easier for you to wake your children up each morning, especially if it is often difficult.

Fun morning ritual
Make your kids look forward to waking up by having a sit-down breakfast. Of course, this takes preparation and some extra time but it will be worth factoring this in. Your child will look forward to getting up and, knowing that rather than being bustled out the door in a panic, they will be going downstairs, having a leisurely breakfast, talking with family and still be in time for school.

Wake up slowly
If your child is in a deep sleep and is suddenly awoken, chances are they will be groggy and not very happy. Why not devise a way to wake them up slowly from a certain time? This could be done either by making some subtle “morning” sounds yourself in the kitchen or by using a light that gradually gets brighter. Music would also work quite well in this situation.

Rewards system
A rewards system can be a good idea for children who are impossible to get up in the mornings. By setting up a simple chart you can use gold stars to show them all of the mornings they have done really well, and not so well. Children will love the excitement of getting stars and will look forward to putting a brand new one on each weekday that they will be up and dressed in no time.

Independence
It may seem a little far-fetched to allow your child to depend on themselves to get up in the mornings, but this may in fact be the push they need to do so. Get your child their very own alarm clock and allow them to wake themselves up each morning. This will, of course, be with your guidance to ensure all runs smoothly. Children love to be independent and the responsibility of getting themselves up each morning will be exciting.
