A transgender teen is taking legal action against a school after they refused to let him wear a boy’s uniform.

16-year-old Aidan was born female but says his former school would not let him wear a boy’s uniform when he began his transition despite support from his parents and doctor.

Aidan claims that when he told the Hereford Cathedral School that he no longer wanted to be addressed as a female or wear girl’s clothes, they told him it would be a “phase” that he would eventually grow out of.

The school apparently said he was “attention seeking” and Aidan felt “they didn’t really take it seriously”.

This situation escalated and eventually led to Aidan’s mother removing him from the school.

The family are now taking legal action under the 2010 Equalities Act.

In a statement released on the issue, Hereford Cathedral School said:

“The continued happiness, wellbeing and safety of our pupils is the top priority.”
