As much as we try to protect our skin, once in a while, sunburn can’t be avoided. Whether from a long day at the beach, a picnic in the park, or an afternoon of yard work, a sunburn can be miserable and hard to soothe. If this happens to you, try this Homemade After-Sun Lotion.
 
What you need:
  • 1 tablespoon beeswax
  • 3/4 cup almond oil
  • 2 tablespoons liquid lecithin
  • 1 tablespoon dried comfrey root (if you use fresh, 2 tablespoons)
  • 4 tablespoons aloe vera gel
  • 1 teaspoon borax
  • 15 drops lavender essential oil
  • 1 cup distilled water
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa butter
  • 4 vitamin E capsules
Instructions:
  1. Begin by adding the comfrey root extract to the distilled water in a small sauce pan. Bring to a boil and lower the heat. Cover and let the mixture simmer for 20 – 30 minutes. Allow the mixture to cools and then put it through a strainer to remove any solids.
  2. Next you will make the base by adding the beeswax, liquid lecithin, cocoa butter and almond oil in a double boiler. Heat on low to medium heat until the wax and butter is melted. Remove from the heat. Empty the contents of the vitamin E capsules into the mixture and stir thoroughly.
  3. Add the aloe vera gel to the sauce pan with the comfrey root extract and heat on low. Add the borax into the mixture and stir until well dissolved. Now, let both mixtures cool down completely to room temperature.
  4. When cooled, add the base mixture to the comfrey root extract mixture. Stir or whisk until well mixed. Finally, add in the lavender oil and blend thoroughly.
  5. Lotion will last for three months if stored in a glass bottle in the refrigerator, and one month in not refrigerated.
