Almost all degrees of astigmatism can be treated with the prescription of the correct eyeglasses or contact lenses. For a person with only slight astigmatism then corrective lenses may not be required at all, unless they are required to correct near or farsightedness. The lenses prescribed to correct astigmatism have an additional power element called a cylinder, and are known as toric lenses. They have a greater light bending power in one direction so that equal bending of light can be restored.

In later life, your child can also opt for refractive surgery which will correct the shape of the eye through laser surgery. This surgery can only be performed on healthy eyes that are free from retinal scars, corneal scars and certain eye diseases.
