The normal course of treatment for Periorbital Cellulitis is the prescription of oral antibiotics. Your G.P. will want to monitor your child’s progress closely to make sure the antibiotic is working so a follow up visit will likely be scheduled for a day or two later, depending on how severe the infection is. Usually, there is a further appointment is made for a week or two later to make sure the infection is gone. It usually clears up within 48 hours so this is just as a precaution.

It is important that the entire course of antibiotics is completed as this will prevent the infection from flaring up again. Your doctor may also prescribe a painkiller that is suitable for your child to soothe any pain.
