It’s a very sad state of affairs, but today we are sharing a safety warning regarding the planting of a very dangerous object on a shopping trolley.

Australian mum Rachael Maitland took to Facebook yesterday to share the shocking account of how her husband, Corey, had his finger ‘sliced by a razor blade’ planted on the handle of their cart.

The couple were shopping in local department store Bunnings when the incident occurred.

Rachael wrote: “A HUGE WARNING to everyone…today we went to Bunnings, and as we were strolling around collecting our veggie patch supplies, Corey’s finger got sliced by a razor blade that some absolute low-life had planted on the side of the handle!”

To make matters even worse, the blade had been planted within the reach of their child, who was sitting in the trolley seat.

“Thank goodness he didn’t touch it,” said Rachael, adding, “Please be careful and check your trolleys…has been reported to Bunnings staff.”

Sadly, this isn’t the first such incident to make headlines. Just last week, a US mother contacted her local news station, after her young son noticed a sharp object attached to the underside of the shopping trolley handle.

Lisa Zimmerman told The Bismarck Tribune that her son drew her attention to ‘something metal poking out’. It turned out to be a long razor blade similar to those found in box-cutting knives.

Thankfully, no one was hurt, but these stories represent a worrying trend that is being reported all over the world.

A US woman was shopping at her local Wal-Mart supermarket last year, when she reported actually being pricked by a razor blade hidden under the handle of her trolley. The only thing that saved her one-year-old daughter from being hurt was that she chose to sit her in the back of the trolley as opposed to the front, like usual.

The latest post, from Rachael Maitland, has angered and upset a lot of people across Facebook. There is one overarching message that fellow parents have been leaving under the post, and it bears repeating: check your trolleys.

The thought that someone would set up a dangerous situation like this, to potentially hurt a child or a grown adult, is crazy – but, sadly, this is the world we are now living in.

So, mums and dads, maybe bear this in mind the next time you are going shopping – it could save a lot of hurt.
