While the average age of autism diagnosis is usually at around four, there may be subtle signs from 12-18 months.

Experts say that the earlier you diagnose if your child has autism the better, as early intervention and care can be set up as soon as possible – making a huge difference to your child’s development in the long run.

To help parents determine this, autism researcher Dr. Rebecca Landa of the US Kennedy Krieger Institute has created a handy nine-minute tutorial on signs of autism in one-year olds.

The tutorial is made up of six video clips which compare toddlers who show no signs of ASD (autism spectrum disorders) to toddlers who exhibit early signs. The helpful video also features a voice-over explaining how the specific behaviours exhibited by the child are either indicative of ASD or typical child development.
