All of us feel certain reservations when we decide to embark on our first fitness regime or choose to switch up our normal exercise programme.

Our natural inclination is to question whether we'll be capable of the challenge and wonder whether we're setting ourselves up for failure.

All of this is natural, but it's vital we don't allow these reservations to dictate the outcome of our efforts.

If you often find yourself on the receiving end of your own negative thoughts when it comes to getting fit, then you need to school yourself on some simple ways to banish those thoughts.

Here are five simple things to remember to give you the kick-start you need!

1. Everyone has to start somewhere

Those joggers you see who don't seem to break a sweat didn't begin that way, believe us!

It took dedication, determination and willpower to reach a point where a five mile jog can look effortless!

Don't be jealous, be inspired!

2. No one is as interested in you as you think

It may sound harsh, but no one is paying you even one-tenth the amount of attention you think when you attempt your first mile on the treadmill.

Whether you believe it or not, all those gym bunnies got their toned tummies and trim waists by working out in the gym, not be standing around looking at you!

Get over yourself and remember if they ARE looking, then they're just in need of a quick breather!

3. Have you ever laughed at anyone you've seen exercising?

Fear of being ridiculed for togging out in new trainers is one of the main reasons people put their exercise regime on the long finger.

But how often have you mocked someone who you saw getting their burn on?  We bet the answer to that is 'never', so hop to it!

It doesn't matter how slow you go, you're still lapping everyone on the couch.

4. Your appearance is inconsequential

We'll be honest here, if you look good at any point in your work-out, then you're not doing it right.

Break a serious sweat, make ugly faces and pass wind if needs be, but do get out there!

Remember the worse you look, the harder you're working!

5. You have so much more in you than you realise

It takes the first few exercise classes or jogs to realise your potential.

It will be hard, it won't happen overnight, but it WILL happen, so dig deep and channel the person in the gym you're most envious of.

Turn your envy from a negative into a positive, and start seeing the change in your attitude and appearance!

And remember, if you keep these things in mind then soon you'll be the person that other people use as their inspiration when they decide to get fit!
