Kaye-Madonna Hindes was upset to learn that she had BRCA2 gene, which means she's more likely to develop breast cancer than the average woman.

Adopted as a baby, the Minnesota gran got this dreadful news straight after being diagnosed with anal pre-cancer - which was tough enough given that she’d already survived cervical cancer many times.

With so many health issues stemming from her DNA, she finally decided to do what she’d always been too afraid to do: to track down her birth mother.

As anyone would these days, Kaye-Madonna (34) from Minnesota took to Facebook. She posted an appeal on the social networking site looking for ‘Aimée from Oak Park, Illinois in 1981’ along with a photo and letter written by her mother.

She’d only received the letter a few weeks prior, and its contents made for emotional reading.

“We really didn’t know what to say in this letter, but we will try our best to make it come out right,” her mum wrote.

“We placed you up for adoption not because we didn’t love you but because we did love you. We wanted to make sure you have the best life possible. But at this point in time, neither one of us are capable of doing so.”

Touched by what she read, Kaye-Madonna knew she had to share it, not just to aid the reunion but to help other adopted people and their families.

Incredibly, just two hours after sharing the touching letter, her birth mum Aimée Sordelli got in touch – and it didn’t take Kaye-Madonna long to reply.

“It took me 34 years to get the courage to start the process,” she wrote. “I toiled and waited for the perfect time.”

“Exactly 12 minutes after receiving your photo from the adoption agency, I knew we had to meet. Perfectly-planned impatience – that’s me.”

“I’m hoping you are open to a ridiculously long phone call, or maybe just coffee or dinner – wherever you are.”

The two women met for the first time last Friday at Minneapolis international airport. Aimée flew in from Illinois to spend a few days with her daughter and to meet her grandchildren.

She was just in time for her grandson Daniel’s fourth birthday party.

“The kids adore her,” Kaye-Madonna told ABC News. “Anything that Aimée wants to be involved in, I want her to be here.”
