No doubt many of our readers will recall the devastating news report from earlier this week, documenting how medics attending a car crash scene safely delivered the baby of a pregnant women who later died.

The story has touched and broken hearts around the world, but none so much as in the woman’s community in Kansas City.

After hearing the sad story of Denisse Lopez and Mario, the baby whom she never got to meet, mothers from the local Home Family Holistic Centre decided to take action to help the newborn out.

Centre owner Ashley Walburn appealed to members to donate any supplies they could for little Mario, just to make life that little bit easier for him and the family as they mourn the loss of Denisse.

Speaking to local news, Ashley revealed the motivation behind the move: “It’s just something we all wanted to do. I mean, that awful crash happened just blocks away from my business. It’s so sad.”

“It’s the least that we can do to help. You know, everybody just wants to bring this mama back for this baby, and we can’t do that. We are especially collecting diapers, and gift cards…will be a really great thing because it will be continuing after the donations have kind of worn off,” she added.

Well done to all getting involved in the campaign. The family, especially baby Mario, will remain in our thoughts.
